My aim is to work with you to promote and encourage positive change in your life, in whatever way that is defined and valued by you. Part of my role is to work alongside you and help to the best of my ability, when thinking about the bigger questions in life. Questions like how can you handle thoughts and feelings you really don't want; what do you want in your life that you currently don't have; what sort of person do you want to be; what do you want to achieve; what do you want your life to stand for?
What can I do that can help? I use an individually tailored approach incorporating traditional Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) , Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) , Supportive Counselling, and Strengths Based Positive Psychology. In my journey as a psychologist I am increasingly using mindfulness-based therapies, such as ACT, as they address the needs of the whole person. ACT does this by helping us to deliberately notice unwanted thoughts and feelings, and how much we ‘buy into’ them. We then see whether their attempts to control thoughts and feelings is really working in the long run.
