Taking the first step towards therapy can feel overwhelming. Here's what you can expect during your visit to help you feel prepared and comfortable.
We'll start by getting to know each other. I'll ask about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, and what you hope to achieve. This is your time to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
Together, we'll identify your personal goals and what positive change looks like for you. This helps us create a tailored approach that aligns with your values and desired outcomes.
Each 60-minute session builds on the previous one. We'll work together using evidence-based techniques like ACT to develop practical strategies and skills you can use in your daily life.
We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our approach as needed. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your feedback helps guide our work together.
Everything you share is completely confidential. I'm bound by professional ethics and legal requirements to protect your privacy.
You're in control of what you share and the pace of our work. There's no pressure to discuss anything you're not ready to explore.
Feel free to call or email before your first appointment. I'm happy to answer any questions that will help you feel more comfortable.

My aim is to work with you to promote and encourage positive change in your life, in whatever way that is defined and valued by you. Part of my role is to work alongside you and help to the best of my ability, when thinking about the bigger questions in life. Questions like how can you handle thoughts and feelings you really don't want; what do you want in your life that you currently don't have; what sort of person do you want to be; what do you want to achieve; what do you want your life to stand for?
I use an individually tailored approach incorporating traditional Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) , Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) , Supportive Counselling, and Strengths Based Positive Psychology. In my journey as a psychologist I am increasingly using mindfulness-based therapies, such as ACT, as they address the needs of the whole person. ACT does this by helping us to deliberately notice unwanted thoughts and feelings, and how much we ‘buy into’ them. We then see whether their attempts to control thoughts and feelings is really working in the long run.
For Medicare rebates, yes - you'll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. This allows you to access up to 10 subsidised sessions per year. However, you can also book private sessions directly without any referral, giving you immediate access to psychological support when you need it most.
I’m a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) . I keep my skills current with over 30 hours of professional development and supervision each year, so you can feel confident you’re in capable hands.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based psychological intervention that
focuses on developing psychological flexibility - the ability to stay present with your thoughts
and feelings rather than being controlled by them. Instead of trying to eliminate difficult
emotions or thoughts, ACT teaches you to accept them while taking action aligned with your
personal values and goals.
This approach combines mindfulness strategies with behavior change techniques, making it
particularly effective for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and stress-related conditions. ACT
helps you build a rich, meaningful life even when challenging thoughts and feelings are present.
